Stained Glass Cypress Folding Umbrella — the canopy is printed as leaded glass: the Cypress artwork broken into bright panels bounded in black, which reads especially well from underneath with daylight coming through. Printing both faces costs more and is worth it: an umbrella spends most of its working life being looked up into by the person holding it.

The fabric is 100% waterproof polyester, treated so raindrops bead rather than absorb, and the canopy is oversized by 15cm — noticeably more shelter than the umbrella already in your bag. The frame is aluminium through the shaft with fibreglass in the ribs — the combination that keeps weight down while letting the canopy flex rather than snap in a gust. The auto-open mechanism is sprung rather than motorised, so there is nothing to charge or replace.

The reinforced eight-rib structure and thickened metal axles are what stop it inverting on a gusty street corner. It opens automatically with one hand and folds down small enough for a bag. It is light enough to keep in a bag permanently rather than only on days the forecast is bad — which is when umbrellas are actually needed.
